The Zoo has games, games and more games. In addition to five pool tables, three dart boards and five pinball machines, the bar boasts shuffleboard and one of the only snooker tables in town. There's also a back balcony that provides an in-your-face view of Lake Union. Blues tunes boogie through the speakers.
The zoo is your perfect dive bar. A little dark, a little dingy, but quite spacious, perfect for big groups. Plus, lots of games to play: pool, ping pong, darts, and most importantly - shuffleboard (the really really long table kind). People are generally pretty friendly here, leave the pretentious stuff at the door. Order up some pitchers of beer (CASH ONLY ) and put some tables together - and just have fun . The decor here alone makes for great conversation (i.e. a huge dragon on the wall with eyes that change colors - awesome!)
If you can't tell snooker from eight ball, and must have a chop chop salad with your wine then stay away from the Zoo. This is a tavern. Beer only, no food, and it has not been updated since well.....it opened. But they have $9.00 64oz glass pitchers of PBR all the time. They have games from computer to hard tip darts, shuffleboard, snooker, and several pool tables. In addition the bartenders are nice people who will loan you a cribbage board if you ask nicely. This is a great hangout bar.
Before I actually visited the Zoo, I'd heard it was a biker bar and was a little intimidated. Now that I've actually been there, I think back and laugh hysterically. The servers are friendly, everyone there is super laid back, and it's nowhere near as expensive as a lot of other bars in the area. When you're really craving company and a cold one, stop by the Zoo and you'll feel right at home.
